How to Boot PcLinuxOs and fly LAC from Read-Only Boot Media
Linux Air Combat software can be stored on bootable, read-only media
like DVD-ROM or flash "Thumb Drive". We build special "PcLinuxOS" media
for this.
In these situations, PcLinuxOS,
LAC, and mumble all start out configured generically, and you will need
to spend an extra minute or so optimizing them from prominent,
simple menus each time you boot into a new flight session. Here are the
steps:
1- After hooking up your joystick and other hardware for LAC, boot from
the Read-Only Media. (PcLinuxOS usually needs 2 or 3 minutes to boot up
and display its generic "desktop". You will need to know that the
password is "lac".)
2- From the little "speaker" icon in the LINUX "kicker panel", adjust audio volume slider to maximum.
3- Connect to your local WiFi for Internet access. (The icon you want is in the "kicker panel" next to the speaker icon.)
4- Start LAC with a single-click on the little airplane icon. Listen
for Mumble's response and for LAC's sound effects. Single-click
anywhere in the splash screen to bring up LAC's main menu.
5- Configure LAC's video resolution for your hardware if you haven't
already done that in this session. "SETUP OPTIONS" -> "VIDEO".
use "RESOLUTION", and "FULLSCREEN". buttons. Re-start LAC
if needed.
6- Select your desired aircraft from LAC's main menu if you haven't
already done that in this session. ("FLY A MISSION -> DEFAULT
AIRCRAFT)
7- Select your desired Mission from LAC's main menu. Listen for Mumble's response.
8- Designate your desired Realm, Team, and mission Start Location if you haven't already done that in this session.
9- Start the mission.
10. Set your online "CommunityHandle" in flight with the Morse Code Radio if you haven't already done that in this session.
11- When the mission is complete, exit from LAC so your LINUX desktop is showing again.
12- Repeat steps 4-9 as necessary for best fun as long as time allows.
