YouTube video clips for absolute beginners with LAC.
The first
video clip introduces LAC's optional new cockpit from Feb2024 and helps you
interpret all of the other video clips for either of the two different
cockpit instrument arrangements.
The second clip will help you "map" your keyboard and joystick (axes
and buttons) to LAC's flight and communication functions, so you can
customize your virtual "cockpit" and arrange the physical location of
all of your most important controls. Note that the information in this
second clip applies equally to people flying with a conventional,
aircraft-oriented joystick and also to people flying with a "Console
Game Controller". Spend some time
with those two clips; they will REALLY help you with everything else,
and LAC's menus are both POWERFUL and NON-INTUITIVE until you know the
appropriate sequence for designating buttons before keystrokes. After watching that second clip you will be ready for the additional, related details in THIS DOCUMENT.
When you're satisfied with the physical locations of your own controls
for Elevator axis, Aileron Axis, Throttle Axis, Landing Gear, Flaps,
Speed Brakes, Primary Weapons (guns), Secondary Weapons selection,
(bombs/rockets), Secondary Weapon firing, turning your head left,
right, forward, backward, up, and down to look around, toggling your
view from "internal" to "external", Target Selection, "zooming" views
In and Out (especially RADAR range) and voice "Push-to-Talk", you're
ready to proceed beyond that second clip. Keep in mind that LAC's
standard control layout has been very carefully thought out for most
players; only change it if your flight controls are significantly
different or if you have "muscle memory" from some other flight
controller that you can't easily "unlearn".
The next clip is
for players using a joystick (those using a Console Game Controller
instead of a joystick will also find this first clip useful, but they
will also want to take a look at THIS YOUTUBE PLAYLIST). The next two clips will be
better for
those that don't have a joystick. The sixth clip is a
comprehensive
tour of LAC's cockpit instruments, based on our old (but still
available and supported) "glass cockpit" layout. If you are using
our newer "WW2" cockpit, you'll have to adapt your interpetation of
that video a bit. The remaining clips build on the
foundation from earlier ones.
After watching all of these video clips and exercising our tutorial
missions, beginners will be ready for the more advanced training
resources HERE.
Finally, here's a video clip showing how all of the basics are used in
combat, featuring our simple, offline, "FIGHTERS" tutorial mission, and
illustrating the optional, updated version of our cockpit instruments:
That video clip illustrates some more advanced concepts and techniques.
To help you master those, continue your training with our LAC Advanced Flight
Training page.
